Design Process
The design process begins after the design contract has been entered into, the survey form has been filled out, and we have established your budget.
Design Process. The first step in the process is to select the appliances. This is because the dimensions of the appliances must be known before the cabinet layout can be determined. The second step is for you to select your cabinet brand, style, and color. Next, the countertop is selected, and then the flooring and tile or other backsplash. The lighting design is then determined and paint color or other wall treatment is selected. Our experience indicates that this approach to product selection results in the best overall visually appealing design.
We have established corporate relationships with all of our suppliers for every aspect of your kitchen or bath project. We note that the overall cost of your project will be reduced if you use our suppliers. However, of course, if you do not decide to do so, then we will use any supplier that you select.
All of our suppliers have excellent showrooms which we will take you to in order to make your product selections. You will be able to see realistic computer generated views of the project design to assist you in the cabinet selection and design and the kitchen layout.
For those customers who are not sure what they want their project to look like, we can help you determine what you like by showing you photos of all types of kitchens or baths and various color schemes. When we know the overall look that appeals to you, then, along with our suppliers’ designers, we can recommend products that will fit your kitchen or bath dimensions and result in the appearance you desire.
Project Contract. After the design is complete, and the exact products have been selected, then we will give you a total price for your project. If this price is not acceptable, then we will rework the design to achieve a price that is acceptable.
In accordance with NKBA practices, your project contract will list each and every product selection for your project (i.e., every cabinet, exact brands and models, exact countertops, faucets, lighting selections, etc.).
The project contract will also state the approximate amount of time that it will take to install your project. Please note that for kitchen projects, you should expect it to take approximately 4 weeks for the installation. Complex projects may take a few weeks longer.
Our contracts provide for payments at various stages of the installation. Please note that before we can order your cabinets and other materials, we must receive a payment that is sufficient to cover the cost of these items. In general, you should expect to pay approximately one half of the contract price up front, and then approximately two more payments of about twenty percent each as the installation progresses, with the remaining ten percent due when the project is completed. We can accept payment, for even the full contract price, by credit card, or, of course, by check.
Installation. We will begin installing your kitchen as soon as the cabinets and flooring materials arrive. Cabinets generally are delivered about 3 weeks after an order is placed. However, if custom cabinets or certain brands of cabinets are selected, it may take longer for them to be delivered. Delivery of the appliances will be scheduled to coincide with the installation schedule. While the countertop will be selected before the installation begins, the cabinets must be installed before the final countertop measurement can be made.
Before your existing kitchen or bathroom can be demolished, it will be necessary for you to completely empty out your kitchen or bathroom. In order to minimize your inconvenience, we suggest relocating your existing refrigerator to another part of the house (close to the kitchen) and locating your microwave and dishes in an easily assessable location.
Wayne and Sharon Dameron will be heavily involved in the installation of your project (particularly the demolition, cabinet installation, and tiling) and will also oversee all work done by subcontractors. All plumbing and electrical work will be done by licensed plumbers and electricians, in accordance with code requirements.
Option to Install Kitchen in Stages. We also provide our customers with the option of having their kitchen installed in stages. Staged installation will decrease the amount of time that you are without the use of your kitchen sink and dishwasher. This can be done by our removing the existing wall cabinets first, and installing new wall cabinets --- before --- we remove the existing base cabinets. This will allow you to relocate many of the items in the wall cabinets to your existing base cabinets, which will reduce your inconvenience. Once the new wall cabinets are installed, you can then relocate the items in your existing base cabinets to your new wall cabinets. Please note that this staging of the demolition and installation process is a feature which our company offers that the vast major (if any) of other remodeling companies do not offer.
Excellence in Workmanship. The quality of our workmanship will be at the level of the kitchen and bathroom renovations in our home in
One Year Adjustments. The natural properties of wood result in cabinet doors expanding and contracting ever so slightly as a result of differences in humidity over the course of a year. Wood “breathes” so to speak. This property can cause cabinet doors, which were perfectly aligned at the completion of the project, to become ever so slightly out of alignment a year later. This is not the result of improper installation, but rather, it is a natural occurrence. This does not happen in every case, but it can occasionally happen. Because we want you to remain happy with your project, we will contact you a year after project completion to ask you if you would like us to adjust any cabinet doors to ensure that they are properly aligned.
Warranties. We warrant our workmanship for five years. You will receive the warranty as part of the contract. Warranties on appliances and fixtures are whatever the manufacture provides.
