Installation Process
We operate our business in accordance with the guidelines established by the National Kitchen and Bath Association.
Initial Consultation. Your project begins with our free, initial consultation. Start this process by calling us at 703-442-0452 to schedule this consultation at a time convenient to you, on any day or evening, including weekends. We come to your home to gain an understanding of your project vision. We listen. We will make an initial assessment of the practicability of your project and offer suggestions to help you realize your vision in the most economical way.
Design Contract. To continue the next step requires a design contract. The design fee is $800.00, applied to your total contract price. This is a nonrefundable fee if you choose not to go forward with your project. This fee covers the time we spend designing your project and assisting you with the selection of the materials.
NKBA Survey Form. The next step will be completing the standard client survey form endorsed by the NKBA. We will be happy to assist you in filling out this form to answer any questions you might have. This form speeds the design process as it gives us details of how you envision your dream kitchen or bath will look upon completion, including all of your preferences for cabinets, appliances, countertops, flooring, backsplash, sink, wall treatments, and any special features you may desire such as skylights or stained glass. It also determines your particular style preference for your kitchen or bath, such as traditional, contemporary, country, European, or any style mix. Your color scheme is indicated as well. This form serves as a checklist between us to document all work to be completed on your job to ensures a successful project. Obtaining these details up front, as opposed to piecemeal along the way, helps us to better serve you and to reduce the time required on your part to complete your design.
Your Investment Budget. After location, beautifully updated kitchens and bathrooms are what sell houses. To arrive at a design that reflects your vision for your project, you must let us know what your investment expectations are. The NKBA states that for kitchen renovations, the increased value of the house will be at least 85% of the amount invested in the kitchen renovation. This means that for every dollar invested in the renovation, the homeowner should get at least 85 cents of that back when the house is sold. Depending on your location, this percentage could be higher. The NKBA studies indicate that the typical investment level in kitchen renovations ranges from 8 percent to 12 percent of the value of the house.
We will give you a valid job cost estimate, and help you with options to keep you within your budget allowance, if needed. We want to focus on your most desired features, and consider options for reducing costs on those elements of your project that are of a lower priority to you. For example, the cost of appliances, cabinets, and countertops varies tremendously. Our discounted cost of new appliances can vary from $5,000 to over $40,000 (including range, side by side refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave). Similarly, the cost of basic cabinets varies tremendously from top of the line cabinets, as does more basic countertop material versus the most expensive granite. We will discuss this with you up front, so that you can let us know your priorities to stay within budget, or adjust your budget to acquire everything on your wish list. Also, we advise that the level of investment you wish to make should take into consideration the length of time that you plan on remaining in your home.
